Geraldo is a father living in Miami, Florida. His son, Steven, was
diagnosed with severe hemophilia A. Together, the family has learned
what it takes to enjoy life without hemophilia getting in their way.
If you are just starting to learn how to take care of your child with hemophilia, it's something that will change your life forever—for good. You're going to become a stronger person when you pass through this. — GERALDO AMADOR: Father. Caregiver.
"When he was a baby, Steven would bruise a lot. We didn't know what was going on. But when he was 6 or 7 months old, he banged the front of his head on the floor and it became very swollen. We went to the emergency room, and doctors confirmed that Steven has hemophilia.
"We didn't know of anyone who had hemophilia, and we didn't know anything about the disease. Nevertheless, we learned. Now, Steven is on prophylaxis treatment with ADVATE [Antihemophilic Factor (Recombinant)] every other day and he has far fewer bleeds. Steven does his infusions and then we have time to do other things like swim, play piano and play basketball.

Not all activities are appropriate for all people. Be sure to consult your physician or treatment center before beginning any exercise program or participating in sporting activities. If an injury occurs, contact your physician or treatment center immediately for the appropriate treatment.
You should be trained on how to do infusions by your hemophilia treatment center or your healthcare provider.
